Resveratrol

Resveratrol reference formula at an example amount of 100 mg per serving, developed as a capsule or softgel.

Resveratrol is a reference formula for brands building a single-ingredient resveratrol product around an example amount of 100 mg per serving. The brand sets the final amount for its market, and reference labels span 30 to 1,500 mg per serving, so the example is a starting point rather than a standard.

Capsule is the lead format and softgel is developed alongside. The work centers on a light-sensitive polyphenol that dissolves poorly in water and in oil: the raw material grade, the protection from light and the way the powder is dispersed decide the fill, the assay and the shelf life.

Ingredient Composition

IngredientPer ServingRaw Material FormAlternative Form (same amount of active)
Resveratrol100 mg (example amount)Trans-Resveratrol 99%, specified as trans-resveratrol; 100 mg per servingJapanese Knotweed Extract 20–50% Resveratrol, with the input recalculated from its resveratrol content

The amount is stated as mg of resveratrol. Resveratrol is C14H12O3, 228.24 g/mol (PubChem CID 445154); it is used as the free polyphenol, so there is no salt or hydrate conversion.

Intended Benefits & Formula Rationale

This formula is designed for products positioned around polyphenol nutrition in healthy aging programs. Resveratrol is included as the single ingredient so that the concept stays on one well-studied polyphenol.

Intended Benefit DirectionKey IngredientsFormulation Rationale
Polyphenol antioxidantResveratrolAn umbrella review of resveratrol supplementation describes resveratrol as a compound that has shown antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, and summarizes 45 systematic reviews of randomized trials to resolve conflicting findings [1]. Evidence: Referenced
Cardiometabolic markersResveratrolThe same umbrella review reports 35 significant associations among 129, of which four were supported by high-certainty evidence: a smaller waist circumference, lower total cholesterol among overweight adults, and lower diastolic and systolic blood pressure among patients with type 2 diabetes [1]. Evidence: Mixed

The amount is an example. The review in [1] pools trials of many doses and does not test this formula, so any claim on a finished product is reviewed for each market.

Available Formats

Reference labels are mostly capsules, with softgels and powders behind them; capsule and softgel are developed here.

Raw Material Input & Fill (Design Estimate)

Design estimates. Trans-resveratrol is taken at 99% purity, so 100 mg of resveratrol needs about 101 mg of the 99% powder (100 ÷ 0.99); the supplier’s certificate replaces this once the lot is chosen.

Tablet, liquid and gummy are separate projects, because a poorly soluble polyphenol needs its own compression, dispersion and taste work in those systems.

Formulation Considerations

Light and oxygen. Resveratrol degrades under light and in air, and the trans form can convert to the cis form. Light-protected processing, opaque packaging and a desiccant are part of the plan, and the assay tracks the trans form.
Poor solubility. Resveratrol dissolves poorly in water and moderately in oil, so a softgel fill is a suspension. Particle size, a dispersing agent and stirring during filling decide whether each softgel carries the same amount.
Raw material grade. A 99% trans-resveratrol and a knotweed extract at 20% to 50% resveratrol are sold side by side. The grade sets the input weight, the color and the cost, and the specification names the one chosen.
Bitter taste. The powder has a bitter edge that stays inside a capsule or shell; a powder drink would need a masking system and is a separate project.

Customization Options

Brands adjust the amount, the grade, the format and the add-ons.
