Fenugreek Seed Powder

Single-ingredient fenugreek reference formula with 1,000 mg per serving, developed as a capsule, with a powder option.

Fenugreek Seed Powder is a reference formula for brands building a single-ingredient seed botanical product with an example amount of 1,000 mg of fenugreek per serving. Fenugreek is the only active, so the development work centers on the seed raw material or extract grade, the strong maple-like aroma and bitterness of fenugreek, and the capsule or powder system that carries it.

Capsule is the lead format because the reference labels are mostly capsules, with two capsules of 500 mg giving the serving, and a powder version for brands that sell a stick pack. The reference labels range from 150 mg to 2,400 mg per serving and mix seed powders with saponin-standardized extracts, so the page is built around a seed powder with an extract grade as the alternative.

Ingredient Composition

IngredientPer ServingRaw Material FormAlternative Form (same amount of active)
Fenugreek1000 mg (example amount)Fenugreek seed powder; specification 1,000 mg per serving, particle size, moisture and microbial limits set with the supplierFenugreek Extract Powder or Fenugreek Extract 50% Saponins, each with its own input weight and marker

Amounts are stated as mg of fenugreek material as purchased, not of any marker compound. At the same label weight a saponin-standardized extract carries far more saponins than a seed powder: 1,000 mg of a 50% saponin extract carries about 500 mg of saponins, so the form and grade are part of the specification.

Intended Benefits & Formula Rationale

This formula is designed for products positioned around traditional botanical wellness nutrition. Fenugreek is included as the single active so that the form, the amount and the excipient system can be set without interaction with other actives.

Intended Benefit DirectionKey IngredientsFormulation Rationale
Male wellness researchFenugreekA systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized placebo-controlled trials found a small favorable association between fenugreek preparations and total testosterone in adult men (standardized mean difference 0.25, 95% CI 0.02–0.48), with very low certainty of evidence, and concluded that current evidence does not support testosterone-boosting claims [1]. Evidence: Mixed
Women’s comfort researchFenugreekA systematic review and meta-analysis of four articles reported that pain intensity in primary dysmenorrhea decreased with fenugreek compared with placebo (standardized mean difference −2.21), while the authors rated the effect as highly uncertain because of low-quality evidence [2]. Evidence: Mixed

The studies behind [1] and [2] used their own preparations and doses, so amount, claims and target market for a finished product are brand decisions reviewed for each sales market.

Available Formats

The fenugreek reference formula is built for a capsule version and a powder version; counts per serving are design choices that the brand can adjust.

Raw Material Input & Fill (Design Estimate)

Design estimates. The input is the labeled fenugreek weight at an assumed 100% of the powder as purchased, so each unit uses the fenugreek weight shown below; the real input follows the certificate of analysis.

FormatRaw Material Input per UnitDesign FillBalance for ExcipientsVerification Before Scale-Up
Capsule500 mg seed powder540 mg per capsule40 mgBlend density, fill weight variation, flow behavior, moisture
Powder1000 mg seed powder3000 mg per stick2000 mgDispersion, gelling in water, aroma, moisture pickup

Tablet and liquid versions are separate projects, because a sticky seed powder needs its own compression and binder work, and a liquid extract uses milliliter units.

Formulation Considerations

Seed powder or extract. A 1,000 mg seed powder and a 1,000 mg saponin extract are different products. The reference labels pool both, so the form and the marker are fixed in the specification and the saponin content is stated for an extract.
Gum-rich, aromatic seed. Fenugreek seed contains a galactomannan gum that thickens in water, and the powder carries a strong, sweet-savory aroma. Powders can clump on mixing, so a dispersion aid and a masking flavor system are set early.
Moisture and flow. Seed powder takes up moisture and flows poorly, so capsule size, powder density, humidity control and an anti-caking agent are set early.
Evidence and tier. The reviews in [1] and [2] describe very low certainty and highly uncertain effects, and use different preparations. Each sales market’s dose limit and label wording are reviewed before development.

Customization Options

Brands adjust the fenugreek amount, the form and grade, the format and the add-ons.
