Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid reference formula at an example amount of 100 mg per serving, developed as a capsule, powder or softgel.

Hyaluronic Acid is a reference formula for brands building a single-ingredient hyaluronic acid product around an example amount of 100 mg per serving. The brand sets the final amount for its market, and reference labels span 3 to 450 mg per serving.

Capsule is the lead format and powder and softgel are developed alongside. The work centers on the polymer itself: molecular weight, salt form and moisture uptake of a hygroscopic powder decide how it flows, fills and stays stable.

Ingredient Composition

IngredientPer ServingRaw Material FormAlternative Form (same amount of active)
Hyaluronic Acid100 mg (example amount)Hyaluronic acid as sodium hyaluronate powder, specified on a declared-weight basis; 100 mg per servingHyaluronic acid of a different average molecular weight, with the supplier’s grade stated on the specification

Amounts are stated as mg of hyaluronic acid powder at the declared weight. Hyaluronic acid is a polymer without a single molecular weight, so the specification names the average molecular weight range, the salt form and the content assay instead of a molecular-weight conversion.

Intended Benefits & Formula Rationale

This formula is designed for products positioned around beauty nutrition. Hyaluronic acid is included as the single ingredient so that the concept stays on one molecule.

Intended Benefit DirectionKey IngredientsFormulation Rationale
Skin moistureHyaluronic AcidA review reports that ingested hyaluronan increased skin moisture in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study, and that part of the ingested hyaluronan is absorbed and distributed to the skin [1]. Evidence: Referenced

The amount is an example. The review in [1] summarizes the ingested hyaluronan studies it covers and does not test this formula, so any claim on a finished product is reviewed for each market.

Available Formats

Most reference labels are capsules, with powders and softgels behind them; these three formats are developed here.

Raw Material Input & Fill (Design Estimate)

Design estimates. The hyaluronic acid powder is taken at its declared weight, so 100 mg per serving needs 100 mg of raw material; the supplier’s content assay is applied once the grade is chosen.

FormatRaw Material Input per UnitDesign FillBalance for ExcipientsVerification Before Scale-Up
Capsule100 mg350 mg per capsule250 mgPowder flow with moisture uptake, blend uniformity, fill weight variation, disintegration
Powder100 mg per stick3 g per stick pack2,900 mgMoisture uptake in the sachet, dissolution and clumping, taste
Softgel100 mg700 mg fill600 mgSuspension stability of the powder in the oil, fill weight variation, shell moisture exchange

Tablet and liquid are separate projects, because a high-molecular-weight polymer changes viscosity in a liquid and needs its own compression work as a tablet.

Formulation Considerations

Molecular weight grade. Hyaluronic acid is sold in a range of average molecular weights. The grade affects viscosity in water, powder flow and cost, so the specification fixes it before the formula is finalized.
Moisture uptake. The powder is hygroscopic. Humidity control during blending and filling, a moisture-barrier pack and a desiccant are part of the plan, and the capsule shell moisture window is checked.
Viscosity in a drink. In the powder format a polymer can thicken the drink and form lumps on contact with water. Particle size, a dispersing carrier and mixing instructions are tested in the pilot run.
Oil suspension. In a softgel the powder is suspended, not dissolved, so settling in the fill tank and uniform dosing across the batch are the main process risks.

Customization Options

Brands adjust the amount, the grade, the format and the add-ons.
